After successful run together at Minnesota State, Todd Knott joins Mike Hastings at UW

MADISON – Mike Hastings and Todd Knott enjoyed an impressive run at Minnesota State for the past 11 years.

The two will try to continue that success with Wisconsin.

Hastings, who was hired as the Badgers men’s hockey coach March 30, announced Monday that Knott will be the program’s associate head coach. It’s the same title Knott held with Hastings at Minnesota State.

The hiring brings to the Badgers one of the nation’s top assistant coaches.

A renown recruiter, Knott helped Hastings’ teams make eight NCAA Tournament appearances that included trips to the Frozen Four in in 2021 and ’22. The Mavericks were the national runner up in 2022.

Earlier this year the American Hockey Coaches Association made him winner of the Terry Flanagan Award for his career body of work as an assistant coach.

Knott declined an offer to succeed Hastings as Minnesota State's head coach on April 2.

“He’s someone I think is outstanding at what he does whether that's in a hockey rink or in a community or even what he is as a father and a husband and parent,” Hastings said during his introductory press conference last week. “I’ve got an awful lot of respect for him.”
