Succession spoilers follow for the season 4, and overall, finale.

Succession's fourth and final season finale finally showed us whether the Waystar Royco/GoJo deal was going to happen or not, but not without some major twists on the way first.

We went into the episode with Shiv on Lukas Matsson's side, hoping to secure herself the job of American CEO, essentially running her father's company. Kendall and Roman were hoping to tank the deal and captain the Waystar ship themselves, although Roman was grappling with internal tension.

In the finale, Shiv switched sides after leaning that Matsson didn't want her as CEO, mostly because he was attracted to her and if they hooked up and it became public knowledge, it wouldn't be a good look.

But her distrust of Kendall was too strong and her deciding vote meant the deal went through, leaving the Roy brothers out in the cold and Shiv's power-hungry boot-licking husband Tom Wambsgans in charge of Waystar, much to her visible displeasure.

Speaking about the finale to Entertainment Tonight, Roman actor Kieran Culkin said: "It's one of those where if he said there's gonna be a [season] five right after that, it made sense too.

"It feels like an end, but it feels like it could carry on. And for Roman, it feels very much the same. Nothing's wrapped up in a pretty little bow. There's more life that carries on after the episode ends."

Alan Ruck, who plays Connor Roy, joked that: "I won't say I'm happy, but I'm really glad that I was a part of it."

Greg 'Cousin Greg' Hirsch actor Nicholas Braun added that it was "perfect", stating: "I think all of us were very moved by and excited to give it to [the fans]."

In a underplayed fashion typical of her character Gerri, J Smith-Cameron said: "It's pretty cool, [it had] a good surprise, you know, twist."

She added that the "family story" has come to "a really satisfying conclusion" but feels like "things don't really wrap up for my character".

While we'd love a spin-off focusing on someone like Gerri trying to navigate a Waystar owned by a tech bro investor who likes to send his ex-girlfriend cubes of his frozen blood, it's been made pretty clear that Succession won't be getting any prequels, sequels or the like.

Creator Jesse Armstrong did reveal where he thinks the Roy siblings would go next though.

Succession season 4 airs on HBO in the US, and Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
