Succession final episode spoilers follow.

It's done. After four seasons and tons of backstabbing and secret deals, HBO mega-hit Succession has come to an end. The Roy siblings — Kendall, Shiv, and Roman — have been fighting between themselves over whether Lukas Matsson's GoJo should take over Waystar Royco.

In the finale, we saw them come together to try and kill the deal for a brief period, before their childish in-fighting reared its ugly head again, and Shiv's deciding vote meant that GoJo did indeed buy out Waystar — with her husband Tom Wambsgans as American CEO rather than her, a complete change in their power dynamic.

The show's creator Jesse Armstrong is adamant that this is the end, but he has revealed what the future holds for the trio of siblings now that they've essentially lost their father's company.

In a behind-the-scenes featurette, Armstrong explains that Roman is basically back where he started, a "playboy jerk" who would call this whole ordeal a "detour", while Shiv is stuck in a "rather terrifying, frozen, emotionally barren place" now that the husband she doesn't even like runs her dad's company.

"She’s got this sort of non-victory, non-defeat," he adds. "It feels like it’s going to be hard for them to progress emotionally, given the things that they’ve said to each other."

And as for Kendall, who came so close to becoming the new Logan Roy, in terms of job title and way he treated Roman and Shiv in the finale?

"Maybe he could go on and start a company or do a thing, but the chances of him achieving the sort of corporate status that his dad achieved are very low, and I think that will mark his whole life," Armstrong concludes.

He also explains why Tom becoming Waystar CEO was "the right" ending for the show's ethos, stating that while his power comes from Matsson, but he is the kind of 'yes man' who thrives in this corporate world.

Succession season 4 airs on HBO in the US, and Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
