NEW YORK — “Succession” is flying away from its Big Apple home and getting down to business in Scandinavia.

HBO’s Emmy-winning dark comedy has started shooting in Norway due to the Scandinavian background of Alexander Skarsgård, who joined the show’s third season as tech magnate, GoJo founder Lukas Matsson, producer Scott Ferguson told Variety.

Matsson’s story will play a more prominent role in next year’s fourth installment, with stars Sarah Snook, Nicholas Braun and Skarsgård, 46, all in tow, said the four-time Emmy winner.

“Last season we had an important new character and a new storyline, a potential merger with Alexander Skarsgård’s tech company,” said Ferguson, referring to the would-be deal between the Roy family’s media empire, Waystar Royco, and Matsson’s company.

“From the beginning, (showrunner Jesse Armstrong’s) idea was that the tech company was going to be led by someone from a Scandinavian country,” said Ferguson. “In the writer’s room, around February, Jesse had an idea for an episode they wanted to be in (Matsson’s) part of the world. ... Norway is a glorious, natural setting. It immediately seemed like a perfect place for a family gathering in the series. We studied different countries, but we realized Norway just has this exceptional landscape — like nowhere else in the world.”

Among the parts of Norway being utilized in Season 4 are other pop culture touchstones such as the Atlantic Ocean Road from “No Time to Die” and the Juvet Landscape Hotel used in “Ex Machina.”

Skarsgård, Snook and Braun — who play mogul Logan Roy’s only daughter, Shiv Roy, and Cousin Greg, respectively — all scored Emmy noms for their Season 3 performances. “Succession” this year took home several Emmys, including outstanding drama series.
