Succession star Alexander Skarsgård has opened up about the relationship between his character Lukas Matsson and Sarah Snook's Shiv as the show comes to its final episodes.

Skarsgård plays Lukas, who is trying to purchase Waystar Royco – which has put him in conflict with the company's current co-CEOs Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Kieran Culkin). However, Lukas has been developing something of a relationship with Kendall and Roman's sister, Shiv, who has her own game going on.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Skarsgård opened up about the relationship and dynamic between Lukas and Shiv.

"He’s one hundred percent using her. It’s a wedge in between the siblings. He sees an opening. He’s a predator. He sees that he needs to get at least one of them on board," Skarsgård said.

"Roman is out, but he smells blood in the water, this friction between the siblings. He smells the opening. He does move fast and break things, but he can read people. He sees that in Shiv, and he goes after that. It’s worked. She’s let him in."

He continued: "Where we’re at now, he’s still feeling the waters and testing her out. Is she also a charlatan? Is she just like her siblings, a little Nepo Baby, or does she have what it takes? That’s what he’s trying to figure out."

Succession's fourth season (the final ever one) has been as successful as ever, with the show hitting an all-time ratings high following the twist that patriarch Logan Roy had died. However, the series has also featured the return of Brian Cox's Logan in flashbacks.

Director Lorene Scafaria recently opened up about this comeback, saying: "As you can imagine, after episode three, I did not think I would be working with Brian again."

"Then suddenly, at the table read, there’s this opening scene. Of course, it’s so thrilling to think of the audible gasp the audience would have seeing Logan again."

Succession season 4 airs on HBO in the US, and Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
