Succession star Nicholas Braun has revealed the TV role he missed out on and the great lengths he went to to try and land it — and this one's no laughing matter.

The actor, who plays Greg Hirsch in the HBO drama, admitted during an appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show that he was almost cast in Ugly Betty as a jester in a scene set in a medieval-themed restaurant.

Braun wanted the bit-part so much that he even came to the audition dressed to impress. "I rented a jester costume and rolled up in little jester shoes," he explained. "I went for it but didn't get the part."

Braun went on to say that he watched the episode and the actor who was cast as the jester was "much older". When asked if he thought the actor did a good job, Braun jokingly answered "no".

"I was bummed out because I really went for it," he added.

Host Kyle Sandilands then asked if Braun had ever approached Ugly Betty star America Ferrara to say, "Look at me now".

"Yes. I go to her house often," Braun joked.

Succession is currently airing its fourth and final season but Braun previously teased that there could potentially be a spinoff once the show ends.

"I've been making jokes that we've already got it greenlit and we're going to start shooting it soon — but, no, there is not [a Succession spinoff in development]," the actor told Deadline.

He continued: "It's a fun thing to talk about [but] we're focused on this — this is the main event of our lives.

"This is the best creative experience I think either of us [creator Jesse Armstrong] have had, but I appreciate people wanting more of Greg. That feels good, but just enjoy the season. You're going to get a nice healthy dose of what you like out of these guys."

Succession season 4 airs on HBO in the US, and Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
