Suits boss on why they added that big twist in the series finale
In the emotional series finale of Suits, the legal action eventually took a backseat as attentions turned to Louis (Rick Hoffman) and Sheila’s (Rachael Harris) wedding, only for the ceremony to be interrupted as Sheila went into labour and had to be rushed to hospital.
But in a surprising twist, that wasn't the only wedding in the finale. While everyone waited for an update from Louis and Sheila, Harvey (Gabriel Macht) impulsively popped the question to Donna (Sarah Rafferty). The two of them got married straight away before deciding to leave the firm and join up with Mike (Patrick J. Adams) in Seattle.
Now, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the show's creator Aaron Korsh has explained why he decided to incorporate Harvey and Donna's surprise wedding into the finale.
"First of all — and I think we wrote to it throughout the season — when we were deciding last year, are they going to sleep together or not, I always [felt] Harvey would know he’s not going to sleep with Donna again unless he’s already, in his mind, committed to her for his life," he said.
"To my mind, once they slept together, it was inevitable that they were going to get married, or at least they were going to be together forever. Because of that, then it felt right to get to see them married."

In regards to Harvey's decision to join Mike in Seattle, Korsh said that they wanted Mike's return to impact his former partner in a "major way".
"Mike makes him care about the little guy more and more and more," he said. "So when we decided whether or not to bring Mike back this year, which all of the writers unanimously wanted Mike back, we thought, 'Let’s have him coming back affect Harvey in a major way.'"
Suits airs on USA in the US and on Netflix in the UK.
