SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas (KETK) – The Sulphur Springs ISD trustees have announced that they’re calling for a $157,150,000 bond election on the May 4 ballot.
Longview ISD board approves $456.2 million bond measure for May election
The proposed bond would pay for various improvements including the following:
Two brand new elementary school campuses around the size of Sulphur Springs Elementary school.
Renovations for Barbara Bush, Douglass and Bowie elementary schools including:
A new playground for Barbara Bush
ADA-compliant accessibility for Barbara Bush and Douglass
Enhanced learning spaces for Barbara Bush and Douglass
Office space conversion for special programs staff at Bowie
Allowing the district to retire Johnson, Sulphur Springs and Travis elementary schools.
Thanks to Taxed Assessed Values and having paid off old debts early, the district said they can issue the bond by only increasing the tax rate by a quarter of a cent per $100 of property value.
If the bond passes the districts tax rate would increase from $0.9914 to $0.9939 but not for citizens 65 and older if they file an over 65 exemption with the Hopkins County Appraisal District.
