Sultana tightens up MRL standings with a victory over Oak Hills

The Sultana baseball team pulled off a 7-5 victory over Oak Hills on Tuesday afternoon to tighten up the race in the Mojave River League standings.

Oak Hills still hold the lead in the standings with a 6-2 record in MRL play, while Sultana is now behind at 6-4, with the season starting to wind down.

The Bulldogs (10-6) got off to a quick start, scoring a run in the first inning on a single from Tyler Martinez and doubling the lead in the third inning on the double from Paul Montoya.

Sultana got on the board in the bottom of the third on a run-scoring single from LJ Borrego.

Oak Hills added another run in the fourth inning, but the Sultans struck back for three runs in the bottom half, taking a 4-3 lead.

Oak Hills briefly tied it up at 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning, and Sultana came right back with two more runs, followed by one more in the sixth inning.

Borrego led the way for Sultana by going 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBI, and a run, while Geoffrey Rodrigues went 1 for 3 with two RBI, and Isaiah Crowe went 1 for 1 with two runs.

For Oak Hills, Aiden Caporale went 3 for 4 with a run; Montoya went 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run; Martinez went 3 for 4 with two RBI; and Keith Williams hit a home run.

On Monday afternoon, Oak Hills pulled off a 9-3 victory over the Sultans. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the third inning, followed by four in the fourth. George Malone led the way Monday afternoon by going 3 for 4 with a RBI and three runs; Keith Williams went 3 for 4 with a RBI and a run; and Angelo Rizzo went 2 for 2 with two RBI.

For Sultana in the loss, Eric Ruiz and Brayden Booth both went 3 for 4 with a RBI; LJ Borrego went 2 for 4 with a run and a stolen base; and Caillou Estrada went 2 for 3 with a RBI and a run.

The teams wrap their season series against each other Thursday as Oak Hills hosts Sultana.

PREP BASEBALL

Riverside Prep 11, Excelsior 10

At Oro Grande, the Silver Knights just held on to pull off a one-run victory as the Eagles scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday afternoon.

Eric Logsdon helped lead the way for Riverside Prep by going 1 for 3 with two runs and two stolen bases; Drew Herd went 1 for 1 with two RBI, a run, and a stolen base; Andrew Logsdon went 1 for 2 with a RBI, three runs and a stolen base; and Cayden Johnson went 2 for 3 with three RBI, two runs and a stolen base.

For Excelsior, Ethan Ramirez went 1 for 2 with a RBI and two runs; Hector Vidales went 2 for 3 with three RBI and a run; Cameron Cole went 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run; and Caden Wharton went 2 for 34 with a RBI and a run.

The teams are back in action Thursday at Excelsior.

On Tuesday afternoon at Hesperia, Cody New struck out 10 batters in a five-inning no-hitter for the Patriots.

New walked three, facing a total of 18 batters over five innings. At the dish, he went 2 for 4 with three RBI and two runs.

Caleb Audet went 4 for 4 with a RBI and four runs; Arlan Koester went 4 for 4 with five RBI and three runs; and Logan Day went 3 for 4 with a RBI.

Hesperia Christian (8-2, 3-1 CVL) is back in action Thursday night at Silverado.

At Apple Valley, Jesiah Zamora tossed a no-hitter to lead the Sun Devils past the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Zamora struck out 10 batters and allowed three walks over the seven innings.

At the plate, Zamora went 2 for 3 with a RBI, a run, and a stolen base.

Beau Lloyd led the offense going 3 for 3 with three RBI and three runs; Ethan Cheek went 2 for 5 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs; Evan Walker went 2 for 3 with two RBI, a run, and a stolen base; and Ryan Martinez, Phoenix Matsumoto, and Noah Celie each collected two hits.

The teams are back in action Thursday afternoon at Serrano.

At Ridgecrest, Ethan Enriquez smacked a game-winning double in the top of the 10th inning to lift the Scorpions past the Burros on Tuesday.

Enriquez sent the 2-2 pitch to center field with one out to score Enrique Duran and Ty Bonnett.

Enriquez ended 2 for 5 with three RBI; Duran went 2 for 4 with two runs and two stolen bases; and Kaleb Watson went 2 for 5 with a RBI and a stolen base.

The teams are back in action Thursday at Hesperia.

On Monday afternoon, Andrew Yepez and David Gutierrez cranked home runs to lead the Jackrabbits past the Aztecs at Barstow.

Yepez’s home run was a three-run shot in the third inning, while Gutierrez hit a solo homer in the sixth to help seal the deal. Gutierrez ended 2 for 3.

Jerry Avila threw a complete game with five strikeouts.

For Barstow, Evan Hernandez went 3 for 3 with two runs and a stolen base; Julian Duran went 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run; Malachi Maestas went 2 for 3 with two RBI; and Gabriel Hernandez went 1 for 4 with a run and two stolen bases.

The teams are back in action Wednesday afternoon at Victor Valley.

ACE continues CVL dominance

At Helendale, a trio of golfers shot a 37 on the east course at Silver Lakes Country Club on Monday afternoon during the fourth Cross Valley League meet.

ACE’s Nate Carlson, Jacob Hutchinson, and CIMS’ Miguel Mendoza ended with a 37. ACE ended with a team score of 194, with five scores within the top-6.

At Oak Hills, Nyomi Estrada struck out 15 batters and allowed two runs on three hits and a walk to lead the Bulldogs past the Diamondbacks on Tuesday afternoon.

Holly Medina went 1 for 4 with a RBI and a run, Hailey Corona went 2 for 2.

For Serrano, Brooklyn Fristrom allowed one earned run on five hits and three walks.

Soraya Elmidge hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Aubrey Veloso had Serrano’s only other hits, going 2 for 3 with a run and a stolen base.

Serrano (5-11, 2-3 MRL) heads to Burroughs on Thursday, while Oak Hills (12-4, 5-0 MRL) hosts Hesperia.

America Barajas-Sanchez struck out five batters and allowed three earned runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings to lead Riverside Prep in the circle. At the plate, she went 2 for 4 with a run.

Marissa Torres went 2 for 3 with three RBI, a run, and two stolen bases.

For Excelsior, Evangeline Archuleta went 1 for 3 with three runs, and Bella Miranda went 1 for 2 with a RBI.

At Hesperia, the Sultans picked up a third victory in Mojave River League action on Tuesday afternoon.

Savannah Vanderpool helped lead the way for Sultana by going 3 for 3 with a run and a stolen base; Hope Merrill went 2 for 3 with three RBI, two runs, and a stolen base; Macy McDonald, Jordan Mullinax, and Maddie Rios each collected two hits with a RBI and two runs.

For Hesperia, Gabriela Seanez went 1 for 3 with a RBI.

The Scorpions (4-14, 0-5 MRL) are on the road Thursday at Oak Hills, while the Sultans (9-12, 3-1 MRL) host Apple Valley.

At Victorville, Jordan Mullinax escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh inning, stranding the potential game-winning run at second base on Monday afternoon.

Sultana had a two-run lead to start the inning, and Savannah Vanderpool forced a ground out, walked Alexandra Valdez, and then a pop-up resulted in the second out. But Amani Davila singled, then Jasmine Crespo drew a walk to load the bases.

Mikayla Cuellar drew another walk to bring in a run and make it a one-run game, ending Vaderpool’s day in the circle. Mullinax took the circle and struck out Davnee Garcia to end the game.

Vanderpool ended with 14 strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings and allowed five runs on five hits.

Avery Rodriguez led Sultana’s offense going 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run; Macy McDonald went 2 for 3 with a run and two stolen bases; Hope Merrill went 2 for 4 with two runs; and Summer Lear went 1 for 2 with a RBI and two runs and a stolen base.

For Silverado, Cuellar went 2 for 2 with two RBI, two runs, and a stolen base, and Haylee Stanislawski went 1 for 4 with two RBI.

At Victorville, the Aztecs improved to 7-1 in Desert Sky League action with a victory over the Jackrabbits on Monday afternoon.

Alyssa Ramsey and Chloe Bledsoe went 2 for 4 with a RBI and two runs; Annica Carrion went 2 for 4 with two runs; Marley Zamora went 1 for 3 with a RBI and a run; and Mariah Rodriguez went 1 for 3 with a home run and four RBI.

For Victor Valley, Jordyn Madrigal scored 2 for 3 with a RBI, and Susanna Ramirez scored 2 for 3.

The Cougars picked up their first victory at Apple Valley in Desert Sky League action.

Mia Vazquez picked up the victory in the circle, striking out 10 batters over seven innings and allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks.

Mylie Shepard led the offense for Granite Hills and went 3 for 4 with a RBI and a run; Saylor Croom went 1 for 3 with two RBI; and Hailee Moore went 1 for 2 with two RBI and a run.

At Adelanto, the Knights picked up their third-season victory on Tuesday afternoon.

AAE got sweeps in singles action from Kaiden Eisenbrey and Joey Perez, along with the doubles teams of Tyler Izadi and Luis Sanchez and Owen Vo and Alexander Solis-Ortega.

Both teams are back in action Thursday as AAE heads to Victor Valley and Adelanto hosts Barstow.
