Sum 41 is breaking up after 27 years — and new album on the way. ‘This can’t be true’

Sum 41 is disbanding after 27 years together, the band announced on Instagram.

“Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives,” the band said in a Monday, May 8, post on Instagram.

The rock band members added they are grateful to fans — old and new — who have supported them “in every way” and wanted them to hear the news from the band first.

“Sum 41 will be disbanding,” the post says. “We will still be finishing all of our current upcoming tour dates this year, and we’re looking forward to releasing our final album ‘Heaven :x: Hell,’ along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate.”

The band said details for the tour would be announced soon. And for now, band members said they’re looking forward to seeing their fans on the road “and are excited for wha the future will bring for each of us.”

“Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41,” the post says.

Some of the band’s most popular songs are “In Too Deep” off the debut studio album “All Killer No Filler,” released May 8, 2001; “Fat Lip” on the same album, and “Still Waiting” from the 2002 album “Does This Look Infected?”

The goodbye post racked up some 3,500 comments in 30 minutes, most from fans lamenting the breakup while also wishing the band members a happy retirement.

“ALEXA PLAY SO LONG GOODBYE BY SUM 41,” someone wrote with four crying emojis, referencing one of the band’s popular acoustic songs from the 2007 album “Underclass Hero.”

“This can’t be true,” someone else said.

“The end of an era,” another person wrote.

Others took to the comments section to profess how much the band has meant to them over the years.

“Thank you for everything, for the times I thought to give up but you were always there to support me, you’ll always be there to support me,” one fan wrote. “Just a simple ‘thank you’ is not enough. I’ve grown up with you, I’ve laughed with you and I’ve cried with you and this always be.”

“Thank [you] for shaping an entire genre,” another fan wrote. “WE LOVE YOU FOREVER!!”
