As summer break ends, pool closures soon to follow

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — With the summer break coming to an end, the closure of Lafayette's aquatic facilities is soon to follow.

The Lafayette Parks & Rec announced the last dates for the daily operation of the pools.

Like most years, Vinton Pool is set to close on Aug. 7, the weekend before students from the Lafayette School Corporation are set to return to school on Aug. 11.

Normally the Parks department tries to keep Castaway Bay open until the students from the Tippecanoe School Corporation are set to return to school, but with many of the student workers either gearing up for athletic training or heading off to college, the department will have a reduced staff as summer closes.

Because Castaway Bay is set to close on Aug. 7, with the remaining staff set to finish off their summer at Tropicanoe Cove.

Tropicanoe Cove will operate daily until Aug. 14.

From there the Cove will only operate on the weekends until Labor Day weekend when the Lafayette Parks Department hopes to officially end the summer fun.

Beyond Tropicanoe Cove, Columbia Park is set to hold a few more events before the end of the summer.

On July 26, the park will hold its Dance Night, which was previously rescheduled from June 21 to July 26 due to extreme heat.

Tuesday night will also include performances from Dance Moves and Gymnastics, Dance Dynamics and Prairie Grass Cloggers. The first show will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the Memorial Island stage.

On July 28, the Purdue Summer Band and the Lafayette Citizens Band are set to perform at the Columbian Park Memorial Island Amphitheater.

The concert will begin at 6 p.m. starting with the Purdue Summer Band followed by the Lafayette Citizens Band at 7:30 p.m.

Finally, the final Art in the Park event of the summer is scheduled for Aug. 2 in Armstrong Park. This event-themed "Jazz Night," will feature a performance by the Lafayette Symphony Jazz Trio.

Art in the Park is free to enter. Items sold at artist booths and food trucks will have fees at the sellers' discretion.
