This summer concert just ‘blew out’ in 15 minutes. Idaho Center adds another to calendar

Winter isn’t here yet, but Boise music fans already are clamoring for summer.

Almost immediately after it went on sale Friday, an outdoor concert at Ford Idaho Center Amphitheater all but sold out. Country singer Morgan Wallen, who will perform Sept. 9, 2022, “blew out” in 15 minutes, according to Creston Thornton, president of promoter Live Nation’s mountain region — with more than 10,000 tickets sold. “Insane,” Thornton added. Only platinum and VIP tickets remained, he said in an email.

Two days before that buying frenzy, another summer show was revealed at the Nampa amphitheater. Indie and roots act Dispatch and rock band O.A.R. will co-headline a July 28 concert with opener The Robert Randolph Band. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at fordidahocenter.com. The first 300 sold will cost $25. After that, general-admission pricing is $49.50 advance, $55 day of show.

Two other concerts are on the Idaho Center Amphitheater’s spring and summer calendar — both of them rescheduled dates. Matchbox 20 will perform June 5, and The Goo Goo Dolls will headline July 15.

The Dispatch/O.A.R. combination should be a popular draw. But it won’t be as titanic as Wallen’s “The Dangerous Tour.” Formerly a contestant on “The Voice,” Wallen, 28, is known for No. 1 country smashes such as “Whiskey Glasses” and “7 Summers.” He’s also known for a series of recent controversies and apologies. But whether it’s being arrested outside Kid Rock’s bar for public intoxication or getting caught on video using a racial slur, Wallen has weathered the storms over the past two years.

More concerts

“Weird Al” Yankovic will perform at the Morrison Center on June 6, 2022. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday for $39-$99 at Ticketmaster.com.

Just a heads up: This is “The Unfortunate Return of the Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour.” That means it won’t be a typical “Weird Al” performance.

“Once again drawing from his back catalog of 14 studio albums, ‘Weird Al’ promises to deliver a different set list every night,” according to a press release, “with no two shows the same. As before, rather than focusing on the hits from his career, the show will feature Yankovic’s non-parody material — the somewhat more obscure pastiches and original songs that have largely escaped the pop culture radar but are adored by his long-time fans.” The show will have “no costumes, no props, no video screens … just Al and his band of almost four decades hanging out on stage, playing music.”

Mexican pop tribute band Matute will bring its “Planeta Retro Tour” to the Revolution Concert and Event Center, 4983 N. Glenwood St. in Garden City, on Feb. 19, 2022. Tickets to the 8 p.m. show are $60 general admission, $125 upstairs VIP. Those go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at Ticketmaster.

Heavy metal and hard rock bands Black Veil Brides, Ice Nine Kills and Motionless in White will visit the Revolution Center on March 25 of next year. The “Trinity of Terror Tour” show also goes on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at Ticketmaster — for $39.50 advance general admission, $45 day of show, and $79.50 upstairs VIP.
