Editor's note: This story was updated June 14, 2023 to reflect clarifications in the types of jobs available.

An opportunity to earn extra income is being offered by one of the Alamogordo area's largest employers: Holloman Air Force Base, which posted several openings to those in the community.

Here's what to know about job openings at the base.

What jobs can you find at Holloman?

Holloman Air Force Base Force Support Squadron is hiring at www.usajobs.gov for Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) job opportunities.

NAF employment is considered federal employment although it is different from federal civil service.

Money that is used to pay federal service employees comes from Congress while NAF employees are paid by money generated by employers. For NAF employees, it is based on the amount of money made by that department.

According to Holloman officials, there are two types of NAF positions: flexible and regular. Flexible employees hold schedules around the needs of the job, similar to an on-call position, but can work up to 40 hours a week. Regular employees work between 20 to 40 hours a week and receive benefits.

Holloman is hiring for several NAF positions that would be considered both regular and flexible positions: Child and Youth Program Assistant which is considered a regular position, and a cook at the bowling center and Aircraft engine mechanic for the Aero Club which are flexible positions.

Holloman is looking for help with youth programs

Holloman Air Force Base NAF HR Chief Danielle Deissler said there are several openings for youth program assistants at the Child Development Center (CDC).

The child and youth program assistants normally work with children ranging between six weeks to 18 years of age at either the CDC, the Teen Center or the School Age program. Present openings are to only work with kids at the CDC.

Anyone that is hired for this position will also be able to take their child to the CDC for free. Only one child would be considered for the free admission, any child after is discounted.

“This position (child and youth program assistant) is a regular part-time position so it’s been arranged that they can work anywhere between 20 to 34 hours a week,” Deissler said. “We are looking to hire well over 40 applicants for this position.”
