Summer Reading begins at the Holmes County Public Library

The following are events and activities in June at the Holmes County District Public Library. Call the library at 330-674-5972 for information or to register.

Summer Reading Program, June 5-July 22

There are reading programs for all ages and chances to win some great prizes. Registration begins May 30 at the Central Library or East Branch.

Summer Reading Kickoff, Central Library, 5:30-7:30 p.m., June 2

Sign up for summer reading, with hot dogs, chips and a drink provided, plus a scavenger hunt, story walk and bike rodeo. From 6:30-7:30 p.m., enjoy Outback Ray’s Amazing Animal Show.

June Craft Kit for Teens, Central Library or East Branch

Pick up a themed kit focusing on self-sufficiency. Choose between nature journaling or productivity journaling.

Storytime at East Branch,10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, June 7-28

Bring your family for these all-ages storytimes with a nature theme.

Kids ages 2-5 with an adult are invited to join in for stories, songs, rhymes and more.

Little Learners Playgroup at Central Library, 11 a.m.-noon, Fridays, June 9-30

Kids up to age 5, with an adult, will engage in activities to promote reading and social skills. Snacks are provided.

Trouble on the Trail: A Paws to Read Mystery at Central Library, 11 a.m.-noon, June 10

School-age youth up to age 14 will learn about hiking safety, watch a search and tracking demonstration, make a sun visor and read to a certified therapy dog from Caring Therapy Canines.

Under the Stars at Central Library, 11 a.m. June 14

School-age youth up to age 15 will explore nature at night, make a star chart, find real-time planetary objects and learn about the adaptations of nighttime animals. Registration is required.

Author visit & book signing at Central Library, 11 a.m.-noon, June 17

Jackie Deems, author of “Beside Still Waters,” will share her work sign books.

Picnic & Potluck Pleasers with Kate at Central Library, 6 p.m. June 20

Join Kate Shumaker, OSU Extension Services educator, as she offers Picnic & Potluck Pleasers. Registration is required.

Just Wing It! at Central Library, 11 a.m. June 21

School-age youth up to age 15 will explore the world of flying animals through hands-on experiments. Registration is required.

Book Discussion for Adults, 1 p.m. June 27

Central Library, 1 p.m., discussing “The Measure” by Nikki Erlick

Jitters Coffee House, 6 p.m., discussing “The Mitford Affair” by Marie Benedict.

Books are available to borrow at the Central Library.

Let’s Rock! at Central Library, 11 a.m., June 28

School-age youth up to age 15 will learn about rocks, crack open a geode, and paint a rock to take home. Registration is required.
