KatMandu is returning for a fourth concert at St. Mary’s Park.

The Michigan-based Bob Seger tribute act will play from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the bandshell at the park, as part of the Concert in the Park series sponsored by the City of Monroe’s Parks and Recreation department. Admission is free. Attendees should bring blankets or lawn chairs. Food trucks on-site will be The Whiskey Jacks BBQ and Off The Rails Food Trolley.

KatMandu’s six members performed in the series every year from 2016-2018. They are popular with local people.

“We have had fans from Monroe come to see Katmandu in Cleveland,” Thomas Mulawka, drummer and manager, said. “Katmandu is best in the Midwest.”

The band also includes Lonnie Fletcher as the lead vocalist, Dan McCarthy on piano, Eric Kot on saxophone, Kirk Nelson on guitar and Greg Simmerlein on bass.

All six are coming to Monroe and will play Seger’s hit songs from 1974 to the present, including “Katmandu,” “Travelin’ Man,” “Bo Diddley,” “Old Time Rock ’n’ Roll” and “Turn the Page,” as well as some new numbers.

“We’ll play all rocking Seger songs, all the hits,” Mulawka said. “A new project is Arena Rock Detroit with ‘70s and ‘80s rock and roll."

KatMandu prides itself on live background music.

“It’s all the way live, no tracks,” Mulawka said.

“We play the songs in the same key signatures that Bob Seger used in his records. We listen and try to duplicate each and every subtle nuance of the song and performance,” McCarthy told The News in 2018.

KatMandu has toured the metro Detroit area and beyond since 2009.
