The Summer I Turned Pretty has officially been renewed for a second season.
The live-action adaptation of Jenny Han's Young Adult novels recently returned for a second season with mixed reviews, but it has done well enough with Prime Video viewers to warrant more episodes.
The coming-of-age drama centres around the changing relationships for Isabel 'Belly' Conklin (Lola Tung) with her childhood friends, brothers Jeremiah and Conrad Fisher (Dalíland's Christopher Briney and The Vampire Diaries' Gavin Casalegno), as they become teenagers.
On Thursday (August 3), it was announced that The Summer I Turned Pretty will be back for ten episodes overall, with Tung and the rest of the main cast expected to return. It could adapt the third book in the novel trilogy, We’ll Always Have Summer.
Prime Video has clarified that the show was renewed before the SAG-AFTRA strike began last month and production will not begin until after the acting and writing strike has been resolved.
In the meantime, fans will be excited for the second season finale, which is set to premiere on Friday, August 18, 2023.
Amazon and MGM boss Vernon Sanders announced the renewal, saying: "We’ve been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty, making Summer Fridays an entertainment phenomenon.
"This charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamouring for the third chapter of this story. We’re excited today to share the news that they have a lot more Summer to look forward to. Thank you to Jenny, Sarah Kucserka, and Karen Rosenfelt and [producers] for their remarkable work and partnership."
The show recently made a huge change to its format by flipping the narration, with cast member Gavin Casalengo subsequently saying that the big change was "a blast".
The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2 is available to watch now on Prime Video with new episodes dropping weekly on Fridays ahead of the season finale on August 18.
