Summer-like weather gone in a snap

Oct. 28—The time has come to put away your shorts and t-shirts.

Ashtabula County's flirtation with summer-like temperatures ends in a snap, a cold snap, this weekend as much colder air moves in, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Cleveland.

After a high near 75 on Friday, temperatures take a dive over the weekend and early next week.

Area residents could see showers today, otherwise, it will become partly cloudy and cooler with temperatures around 60 degrees by the afternoon, according to the NWS.

Expect even colder temperatures on Sunday as another wave of low pressure, bringing showers, moves through the area and takes nighttime temperatures down into the 40s, according to the NWS.

Next week, as a strong high pressure system will make its way to Ohio from Canada; highs will be in the high 40s on Monday and in the mid-40s on Tuesday [Halloween].

Right now there is no snow in the forecast, but as much as some folks would like to fight it, snow is on its way. Maybe not for Halloween, but most likely before Thanksgiving.

Take a look at the average first measurable snowfall — one that measures one-tenth of an inch or more — in northeast Ohio:

Cleveland — Nov. 10

Akron/Canton — Nov. 9

Youngstown- Nov. 5

Mansfield — Nov. 18

Painesville — Nov. 26

The earliest snow recorded in Cleveland was Oct. 2, 2003 and Oct. 2, 1974, respectively. The latest snow ever recorded arrived in Cleveland on Jan. 1, 1924.
