Summer weekends open with swim meet, baseball tourney in Watertown

It's not technically summer yet, but for all practical purposes the first weekend in June is the official kick off for a number of summer activities in Watertown.

A number of busy athletic weekends in June kicks off with the Watertown Baseball Association's Pizza Ranch U8-U14 Tournament at Koch Complex, Foundation Fields and Watertown Stadium and the Watertown Area Swim Club's Too Cool for the Outdoor Pool meet at the Prairie Lakes Wellness Center.

Here's more on both events:

Swimming

The Watertown Area Swim Club Dolphins will open the state's long course season by hosting a two-day meet on Saturday and Sunday.

Warmups open at 8:15 a.m. each day, with events slated to begin at 9 a.m.

There will be morning and afternoon sessions each day. On Saturday, swimmers 11-and-older will compete in the morning, with 10-and-under swimmers in the afternoon. The age groups will reverse on Sunday.

Baseball

Forty-four teams in seven divisions are slated to play Saturday and Sunday in the WBA's Pizza Ranch Tournament. Games open at 8 a.m. each day.

Here is the tourney schedule, by division:

• 8-and-Under — Saturday's games at Koch Complex. Field 2: Flamethrowers Red vs. Dell Rapids Blue, 8 a.m.; Dell Rapids Blue vs. Sioux Falls Twisters, 9:30 a.m.; Twisters vs. Flamethrowers White, 11 a.m.; Flamethrowers Red vs. Dell Rapids Red, 12:30 p.m; Flamethrowers Red vs. Milbank, 2 p.m.; Flamethrowers White vs. Milbank, 3:30 p.m.; and Flamethrowers Yellow vs. Dell Rapids Red, 5 p.m.
