Summerfest 2022: Rod Stewart Announced, Mask Requirements Dropped

MILWAUKEE, WI — Summerfest announced its July headliner and to have mask and vaccine card requirements lifted for the summer festival, which will be held on three weekends in June and July.

The festival doesn't intend to have checks for masks, COVID-19 vaccine cards and proof of negative tests at its entrances, Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. said in a statement. The company will still work with health experts and stand by for local guidelines if they change depending on the situation.

"Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. does not intend to implement entrance protocols or a mask requirement for Summerfest 2022," the company said. "There are no plans to require proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test."

Singer-songwriter Rod Steward will headline with Cheap Trick on July 7 at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater, the company said. The Summerfest visit was part of the rock musician's 2022 tour.

Summerfest will take place for three weekends this year: June 23-25, June 30-July 2 and July 7-9. Festival hours are from noon to midnight.

The festival took place for three weekends in September 2021. Visitors had to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours to attend.

Nearly 410,000 people showed up to Summerfest in 2021, Milwaukee World Festival Inc. said. The delta variant, loss of public transportation and inclement weather were blamed for low turnout.
