SONIC® Drive-In announced this week that the Summertown Sonic drive-in, 9102 Highway 20, will advance to the Final 12 teams in the 2023 DR PEPPER® SONIC® GAMES.

Public schools in Maury County and Lawrence County will benefit from the contest, receiving funding for classrooms projects.

To celebrate this achievement and the drive-in team’s dedication to serving their guests and community, the SONIC Foundation has donated $10,000 to support Summertown-area schools to directly fund classroom projects submitted by local public school teachers, in partnership with education nonprofit DonorsChoose.org.

The DR PEPPER® SONIC® GAMES is the brand’s premier training program. Over the course of several months, the drive-in team at 9102 Highway 20 engaged in spirited competition, participating in a diverse array of training, quizzes, and stimulating team and individual challenges. Throughout the duration of the competition, the team’s efficiency, service, and even friendliness were rigorously evaluated and put to the ultimate test. The local Summertown drive-in team earned its spot in this last leg of the competition by excelling above and beyond its peers in the fields of customer service and on-site training.

“Created nearly three decades ago, The DR PEPPER® SONIC® GAMES is a gold standard training program that builds a strong store and a thriving community. These games encourage SONIC teams to strive for the best each day and offer the brand an opportunity to acknowledge participants on a personal level,” said Kevin Knutson, Vice President of Training and Operations at SONIC.

“The dedication, hard work, and commitment demonstrated by the Summertown drive-in team during these Games is truly impressive, translating to increased team member and guest experience. We are thrilled to reward their efforts with a $10,000 donation to support their local schools."

Some of the local schools that have received project funding on behalf of the Summertown drive-in team include:

David Crockett Elementary School, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee

Howell Elementary STEM School, Columbia, Tennessee

Ingram Sowell Elementary School, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee

Lawrenceburg Public School, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee

Mount Pleasant Elementary School, Mount Pleasant, Tennessee

Summertown Elementary School, Summertown, Tennessee

Whitthorne Middle School, Columbia, Tennessee

In addition to the $10,000 donation to support their hometown schools, the Summertown SONIC Drive-In team will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to San Diego in September to attend SONIC’s Annual National Convention and compete live in front of a panel of judges, after which SONIC will announce the winning drive-in team and individual team members.
