Summit County Animal Control is joining the #BettyWhiteChallenge to honor the late actress and animal activist, who died Dec. 31 at age 99.

Summit County Animal Control is reducing adoption costs "in memory of Betty’s kindness and devotion to animals," the county said in a news release.

Following what would have been "The Golden Girls" star’s 100th birthday on Monday, Jan. 17, residents can adopt dogs for $28 and cats for $10 until Jan. 31.

"Through her philanthropy, Betty White became more than a television star. She was a champion for zoos, animal shelters and animal rights organizations that advocate for the protection of endangered species, and compassion for dogs and cats looking for new homes," the county said in a news release. "Over her long life, she paid a heartwarming visit to a giraffe at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and lovingly adopted over two dozen dogs."
