LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Summit Utilities customers in Arkansas could see their bills increasing later this year.

The utility provider filed a request for a rate increase with the Arkansas Public Service Commission on Thursday.

A letter to customers submitted to the Public Service Commission noted that the decision process on the rate increase is expected to take up to 10 months, meaning that the increased rate could be seen in bills around October or November.

The letter also noted that rates had not increased since 2022, when Summit acquired the Arkansas assets of CenterPoint Energy. The company also claimed to have made more than $155 million in investments and hired more than 300 employees in the state.

While the letter does not give an explicit number for the rate increase, the company said a typical home using 45 cubic feet of natural gas would see a monthly bill increase of $18.48, or just over 41 cents per cubic foot.

For commercial customers, the letter claims a business using 220 cubic feet monthly would see the bill go up by $28, or a little more than 12.7 cents per cubic foot.
