Sumy Oblast: Russian forces fire 140 rockets, bombs and shells on areas near Russian border

Russian forces fired more than 140 rockets, bombs and shells on areas in Sumy Oblast near the Russian-Ukrainian border over the course of Friday, 23 September.

Details: Russian forces used self-propelled artillery systems to fire four projectiles on the outskirts of Krasnopillia around 10:00. An hour later, at 11:00, the Russians followed up with 28 mortar-launched bombs, and another 14 artillery projectiles fired on the territory of the Krasnopillia hromada (an administrative unit designating the village of Krasnopillia and its adjacent territories).

The Russians resumed their attacks on the Krasnopillia hromada in the afternoon, firing 12 rockets using a multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) and 11 projectiles using self-propelled artillery systems soon after 12:00.

Russian forces also launched an attack on the Bilopillia hromada at around 10:00, firing 7 projectiles using self-propelled artillery systems and 8 mortar bombs. They resumed the mortar attacks on the hromada around noon, launching a further 10 bombs.

Around 13:00, a Russian UAV dropped a VOG-17 explosive device on the Bilopillia hromada.

At 13:30, Russian forces started to shell the outskirts of Seredyna-Buda using self-propelled artillery systems (nine projectiles), mortars (three bombs) and machine guns (five long salvos).

These attacks damaged a power line, cutting around 3,000 households off from power. Repair works are currently underway.

Finally, Russian forces also attacked the Yunakove hromada soon after 14:00, firing 30 projectiles using self-propelled artillery systems.
