Billed as the most prominent car show in the High Desert, the Sun City Cruiser’s 11th Annual Car & Motorcycle Show will roll back into Apple Valley this month.

The free show is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the Mariposa Lodge near Apple Valley Road. The event will feature nearly 250 registrants showing off their classic cars, “rot rods,” motorcycles, and a few surprises.

Many vehicles will come from car clubs in the Las Vegas area and all over Southern California, including Orange County and the local mountain communities.

A DJ will play classic oldies while visitors view vehicles, enjoy a variety of food, have a cold brew in the beer garden, and browse the many vendors and exhibit tables.

The car show will host a reptile exhibitor, offer product drawings, have prizes, and a 50/50 raffle.

Mayor participation

Mayors from Apple Valley, Barstow, Hesperia, Victorville, and Adelanto will select their favorite car and help present the Mayor’s Choice Awards.

Victorville Mayor Debra Jones told the Daily Press she’s excited once again for the opportunity to judge, meet fellow car enthusiasts and support the club’s fundraising efforts.

Jones plans on bringing her 1936 red Chevy Coupe, and her husband, Gene, will bring his black 1957 Chevy Bel Air. The Jones’ cars will be displayed but won’t be registered in the competition.

Rock'n Our Disabilities Foundation

The Sun City Cruisers have raised money for local nonprofits each year by conducting various events, such as concerts, cookouts, and the annual car show.

This year’s proceeds will benefit the Rock'n Our Disabilities Foundation, founded by Dana Hernandez, the founder/CEO of the Hesperia-based nonprofit.

The organization provides services to over 450 children and families of the High Desert with social, recreational, educational, and mentoring programs for families and individuals with special needs.

"Rock’n Our Disabilities is one of our favorite local charities," Jones said, "How could we miss rollin onto the scene in our Chevy classics to support such great work?"

During last year’s fundraising activities, the Sun City Cruisers raised $33,000 for the Today's Woman Foundation in Victorville.

The Mariposa Lodge is at 19311 Jess Ranch Parkway in Apple Valley. The park-like setting is near Apple Valley Fire Protection District Station 337.
