SUNRAY — Heading into the season, Panhandle's Landyn Hack was named AGN preseason MVP. Camren Cavalier was named to the AGN Super Team first team. In the early going, Bushland's Dawson Jaco has made a name for himself and so to was Canyon's Derek Clements before his injury.

None of them lead the Panhandle in passing, though. That honor still belongs to Sunray's Armando Lujan after another dominant outing this week.

Lujan was sensational once again in going 29-of-39 for 435 yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions, while adding 61 yards rushing for good measure, to lead the Bobcats to a 62-22 victory over Boy's Ranch on Friday night.

"It feels really good," the sophomore said. "I've got to give credit to my teammates, my linemen, my wide receivers making good catches. They help make me a lot better."

Lujan has 30 touchdowns on the season and is the first in the Panhandle to cross the 2,000-yard threshold this season.

As he said, he couldn't get there without his teammates and they were plenty involved on Friday as his seven scores went to six different receivers. Kagan Davis was the only receiver to haul in two scores, thoughl Damian Barragan also had a touchdown on a 45-yard interception return.

"I think (the receiving corps) are all pretty close," Barragan said. "We're like a family. We all spend time together after practice every single day. It's a small town so we see each other every day like a family."

Tanner Van Dyk, Dawson Bennett, Uriel Ortiz and Arnold Mendoza each hauled in TDs as well while Dominic Casares tossed in a 25-yard scoring run. Most importantly, Sunray is now 6-1 overall and 1-0 in district.

Don't let the score deceive you. Boys Ranch (4-3, 0-2) fought and deserves credit for never giving up. The Roughriders ate up nearly the entire first quarter on their opening possession, culminating in Isaiah Brown's 1-yard touchdown run that put them up 8-0 to start.

After that, though, the Roughriders didn't score again until 2:55 remained in the third quarter when they managed to block a punt that Josh Cook recovered in the end zone for a score. Boys Ranch added a third score early in the fourth when Brown connected with Deg Barnett for a 5-yard strike.

"We preach our core values every single day," Boys Ranch coach Aaron Wampler said. "Integrity, toughness, discipline, faith and love. There was a lot of that out there tonight. We didn't look at the scoreboard and just kept fighting, scratching and clawing and finished through the end. Not the result we wanted, but the heart is there. That's one big positive."

The Roughriders have an open week next week, while Sunray will face a tough challenge in Gruver.

The Greyhounds are 6-2 after losing to Vega on Friday and defeated the Bobcats last season. Head coach Wesley Boatmun said the team knows what they have to do in order to be successful.

"I think the focus is just on continued improvement," he said. "It's not really anything about (Gruver), it's about us. We know what our work is, we just have to continue to buy into the things that good teams are supposed to do."
