FREMONT - On Saturday, Fremont celebrated its third pride festival at Walsh Park. The festival featured performers, food trucks, vendors, and a lot of people just enjoying the event.

The festival featured a pageant with the theme of "Fairytale." Awards categories included Mr. Fremont Ohio Pride, Mx. Fremont Ohio Pride, and Miss Fremont Ohio Pride. The performers ranged from dancers, singers, beauty, and comedy acts.

The winner of Mx. Fremont Ohio Pride was Anthony Solo Jackson. The Fairytale character Jackson chose was Captain Hook for the contest. “I chose Captain Hook because he reminds me so much of myself — strategic, strong, and the ability to lead. I will lead you to Never Neverland,” Jackson said.

“I believe small-town pride is far more important than the big-city ones because there's not as much representation out here. There are not as many safe spaces. There are not many voices for people who are curious or wondering or lost,” said Logan Jaymes St. James said.

St. James is the Drag King of Columbus. “So out here, it's incredibly important when we can be big and loud and present. Especially with what I am, I have nails with the heels, the lashes. If I had seen someone like me when I was younger, a lot of things would have made so much more sense. I do this for the people here, especially teenagers, who need answers or guidance or just a vision. Literally, a visual that goes click”.

The event represents and celebrates confidence, self-respect, expression, and openness about one’s own identity. The festival brought that out with all the people and the sponsor, and the age range of the event was from baby to elder, all supporting the pride community. The Pride Festival went well into the night moving to Da Love Pitt, in Fremont, with the talent portion of the show.
