"When a rescued puppy creates chaos wherever he goes, his forever dad learns that love is just the beginning of family."

That's the tagline for Palm Springs resident Dan Perdios' new book "Rescuing Morgan: Love Is Just the Beginning."

The tome tells the bittersweet tale of Perdios' third golden retriever, whose mischievous behavior and challenging needs inspires his name: "Morgan," after the spiced rum pirate. Their companionship is documented over five years, during which, per a release, "both puppy and dad test each other, compromise, adapt and ultimately accept life on life's terms."

Ultimately, the inspiring tale is about how love triumphs over trauma and how grief can strengthen — rather than break — the heart.

Perdios will be selling and signing copies of the book on Feb. 11, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Just Fabulous in Palm Springs, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Palm Springs Animal Shelter.

A PEN Grant award-winning journalist, Perdios has been published in We the People, The Press Democrat, The Bay Area Reporter, Russian River Times, The Desert Sun and other publications.

Fun fact: Perdios' first dog, which he got in 1982, was a golden retriever he named Nicholas. And since then — with the exception of five months in 2008 — he has been companioned by one of these remarkable creatures ever since.

Just Fabulous is located at 515 N. Palm Canyon Drive in downtown Palm Springs. bjustfabulous.com
