1. Only my growth plan will reverse Britain’s managed decline, says Liz Truss

Liz Truss has declared that only her plan to transform Britain into a low tax, high growth economy will reverse the “current trajectory of managed decline”.

In her first newspaper interview since becoming Prime Minister, Ms Truss said that “tough decisions” are needed to boost growth in order to increase wages, investment and employment. Read the full story.

2. War on motorists based on ‘false’ government data as calls to scrap LTNs grow

Traffic figures used to justify controversial low-traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs) were incorrect, the Department for Transport (DfT) has admitted.

A flurry of new LTNs, which limit driving in residential streets, were introduced in 2020 with £225 million in emergency funding allocated by the Government for councils to encourage walking and cycling. Read the full story.

3. Revealed: The Beatles’ first ever colour photograph, taken by Paul McCartney’s brother

When The Beatles recruited Ringo Starr as their new drummer, they joked that he wasn’t even the best one in the band - never mind in Liverpool.

4. Knife crime hits record high as one in six cases solved in London

As few as one in six crimes involving a knife, including murders, rapes and grievous bodily harm, are being solved by police as the number of offences hits a record high in parts of England and Wales.

Analysis of police data by The Telegraph revealed that seven police forces – a quarter of the total in England and Wales – saw knife crime hit a record high in the year ending March 2022. Read the full story.

5. King Charles and Queen Consort pictured with Prince and Princess of Wales for first time

King Charles III and his family were pictured the day before Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral and the final farewell to Britain's longest serving monarch.

The King was photographed alongside Camilla, Queen Consort, and the Prince and Princess of Wales at Buckingham Palace ahead of a reception for heads of state on Sept 18. Read the full story.
