Sunday River Resort reopens for 2022 skiing season
New England skiers will be able to hit the slopes well before the Thanksgiving turkey ever hits the oven.
The Sunday River Resort in Newry, Maine is preparing to fire up the ski lifts this Thursday, November 16.
According to the ski resort, snowmakers began to cover several slopes in their winter coats this past Sunday.
Despite an unseasonably warm Fall, the resort was able to make use of several summer upgrades, including three miles of snowmaking pipe, 81 new HKD Klik hydrants and 26 new snowmaking fan guns. In addition, the resort completed construction on a new snowmaking booster pumphouse, located at the top of North Peak, which will allow for more water to be distributed to its western peaks. The resort says that the additions will allow them to make more snow than ever before.
“Snowmaking has been a pillar of our mountain operations since the inception of Sunday River,” says General Manager Brian Heon. “These investments dramatically increase our snowmaking ability and affirm our commitment to providing our guests with the best snow surface possible for years to come.”
The resort will open while offering ski terrain on two peaks with lift service from the Lock Mountain Triple.
Sunday River expects to open on Thursday for New England Passholders, Ikon Passholders, and ticket packs, with daily operations beginning immediately. Daily lift tickets will be accepted for skiing and riding beginning Saturday, November 19.
