Curly the Stooge for next superintendent

It seems that the Sarasota County School Board’s intention to hire a highly effective right-wing superintendent is moving right along.

In spite of the Herald-Tribune’s editorial calls for a fresh and transparent start, my sources indicate that the board has already identified three candidates of interest: retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, Herschel Walker and Steve Bannon.

They are Republicans who will support an agenda that includes banning books and opposing critical race theory.

My suggestion is to consider Jerome Horwitz, who was affectionately known as Curly from the Three Stooges. Curly passed away in 1952 but his likeness, in the form of a cardboard cutout, could be placed in the superintendent’s chair.

Curly was always liked by Democrats, Republicans and independents. Even though he would always support the board, his nonpartisan image would go a long way to healing our community over the superintendent’s “separation.”

And one last thought: Superintendent Brennan Asplen and his wife weren’t “separated” by the board. Let’s call it like it is: They were fired − they were canned.

We caused immigration, inflation

Americans, we have no one but ourselves to blame for immigration and inflation.

For more than 50 years our best and brightest warned us that we needed to help the countries of Central and South America develop and improve their economies and living standards.  One of our leaders even said, “If we do not help them, they will come here.”

Instead, we have ignored these countries. Furthermore, we continue to support the Catholic Church’s position on birth control, which has contributed to keeping so many in poverty in these countries.

As far as inflation, for more than 30 years we enjoyed a great variety of low-cost goods and smooth economies as we recognized the importance of free world trade to the economies of all countries.

Then, suddenly, our leaders reversed course and imposed tariffs again, upsetting the world economies (including established supply chains). How many really understand that the country supplying goods does not pay the tariff? The consumer does!

Club members mourn loss of tennis center

Sadly, corporate America won over those tennis players who loved playing tennis at Jacaranda West Country Club for so many years.

An announcement was made in October that the tennis part would be closing. The land will be sold for other uses.

The tennis members were more like one big family with a strong bond throughout the years. The members will be scattered about to various locations, breaking up a once-happy family.

Last weekend, a farewell party was held at the tennis center, with many teary eyes among the present and past members who met one last time to remember all the good times that were cherished by so many.

Unfortunately, Santa doesn’t always grant every wish!

Remove Biden, Harris for allowing invasion

The president and vice president of the United States both need to be impeached and removed from office immediately due to extreme dereliction of duty by allowing our country to be invaded at our southern border.

They both vowed to defend the Constitution of the United States and have failed miserably.

They claim they follow the “rule of law” and say things like “No one is above the law,” yet under their watch we have millions of people who have illegally crossed the southern border.

I guess they don’t have to follow the rule of law. More lies and hypocrisy by this administration.

Santa: Give Republicans what they deserve

Since Christmas is quickly approaching and I have yet to make a shopping list, I decided to do so today.

At the top of my list is a request concerning the Republican Party: Please, Santa, allow the GOP to engage in a civil war. In that way, the pro-Trump and anti-Trump factions will split the vote and allow the party of common sense to take control of all branches of government in 2024.

As a secondary request, Santa, please have those politicians and their partners in crime, including you know who, to be indicted and convicted for their attempted coup on Jan. 6, 2021.

If you see fit to also include a large lump of coal in their stockings, it would be a nice touch – and hopefully put an end to a party that has completely failed the American people.

DeSantis plays COVID for sensationalism

As one of the first to come down with COVID in March 2020, I’m well acquainted with this subject.

COVID vaccination is now just like flu vaccination: It isn’t perfect, but it gives one a better chance.

It seems that only for political sensationalism, Gov. Ron DeSantis is misleading his constituency by bashing science.

A COVID grand jury, which DeSantis has called for, is a waste of time and a distraction.
