Sunday's Maine college roundup: USM wins twice, extends streak to 8
Apr. 30—Ella Bezanson doubled home the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and Allie Mailhiot capped the outburst with a two-run homer as Southern Maine completed a doubleheader sweep against Castleton with a 10-6 victory Sunday in Castleton, Vermont.
Bezanson was 3 for 4 with three RBI and three runs in Game 2 as the Huskies stretched their winning streak to eight games.
In the opener, Meaghan Dufresne capped a four-run first inning with a two-run single, and Rona Scott drove in three runs to lead USM (19-15, 10-4 Little East) to a 7-5 win.
BINGHAMTON 5, MAINE 3: The Bearcats (29-13, 13-4 America East) completed a three-game series sweep against the Black Bears (12-35, 3-13) with a victory in Orono.
Kelby Drews was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI for Maine.
HUSSON VS. BATES: McKenna Smith pitched a two-hitter, and Katie Raymond's two-run single in the sixth inning ended the game via the mercy rule as Husson (27-12-1) won 8-0 in a doubleheader opener against Bates (14-13-1) at Bangor.
Game 2 ended in a 5-5 tie after seven innings. Bates took a 5-4 lead with a three-run seventh, but Husson tied it in the bottom half. Madison Hollis and Kennedy Jones each drove in two runs for Bates, while Husson's Kenzie Dore finished with three RBI.
