Update on Sunday's two death investigations

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Sixty-one-year-old Kathy Hicks had just left the Franciscan Health East Hospital early Sunday after receiving care. She walked towards Creasy Lane, when she was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, according to the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office and Lafayette police.

An officer en route to an unrelated call discovered Hicks' body lying in the northbound lanes of Creasy Lane at 3:05 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello said she had left the hospital just prior to the accident that killed her.

The driver who struck Hicks has not been located, as of Tuesday.

Preliminary autopsy results on Hicks indicated she died from multiple blunt force injuries, Costello said Tuesday. The manner of death is pending additional investigation. The toxicology report on Hicks also is pending.

The other death investigation from the weekend happened about 17 hours after Hicks' death when West Lafayette police were asked to look for David Poer, 37, who was reported as a missing person. An officer was on the trails Cumberland Park looking for Poer and found him dead about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, police said.
