Sunnyside Cannabis Dispensary opens in Somerset Borough

SOMERSET ― Sunnyside Cannabis Dispensary, 250 Stoystown Road, opened its doors Wednesday. A long line of consumers of the medical cannabis (marijuana) product formed and wrapped around the building early in the morning, according to Tammy Lough, project manager of the site.

"We had 15 orders before we even opened today," she said. And as of the afternoon, about 100 orders were picked up, Lough added.

Kierston Powell, who traveled across the state for the opening as senior marketing manager for Sunnyside, said, "It was a good crowd. A lot of people talked about how excited they were to have a dispensary (in the area)."

Throughout the day she said many people stopped at the booth set up outside the doors on the edge of the parking lot of the dispensary to obtain information on how to be certified to receive a medical card.

Sunnyside Cannabis Dispensary of Somerset is one of 13 dispensaries now open throughout Pennsylvania. There are 166 approved dispensaries owned by various companies across the state.

Operated by Cresco Labs, Sunnyside dispensaries offers a broad assortment of accessories and medical marijuana products like flower, vape cartridges, disposable vape pens, concentrates, troches, topicals and tinctures branded Cresco, Supply, FloraCal Farms, Wonder Wellness Co. and Remedi.

“We’re excited to open the first dispensary in Somerset, as well as expand access to medical marijuana products through a location that’s easily accessible to patients and caregivers in Washington (another new dispensary in Washington),” said Charlie Bachtell, CEO and Co-founder of Cresco Labs in a media release. Cresco Labs operate Sunnyside dispensaries in multiple states.

“Pennsylvania is a core market where we continue to make strategic investments like improving our productivity, opening more dispensaries and broadening access to our bestselling branded portfolio of flower, vapes and concentrates to maintain our No. 1 share," he said.

Active patients and caregivers can place orders both in-store and online at www.sunnyside.shop. Dispensary hours are Sunday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.," wrote Senior Director Kelly Evans, Corporate Communications at Cresco Labs, in an email to the Daily American Thursday. On the first visit, a Pennsylvania state ID or driver's license, as well as a medical card, are needed, Powell said.

A medical consultation is available, along with a pharmacist, to give a customer an opportunity to sit and discuss any questions with medical professionals, she said.
