MINNEAPOLIS – Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul is ruled out for Wednesday's game at Minnesota (5-6) with a sore right heel that kept him out the second half of Monday's loss at Philadelphia (5-6).

Cameron Payne will get the start as he'll join Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges, Torrey Craig and Deandre Ayton in the starting lineup.

Paul scored two points in 14 minutes as he hurt his foot trying to get around a screen set by 76ers big Paul Reed near the midway point of the second quarter. The veteran All-Star checked out the game with 6:10 left in the first half and didn't return.

After the game, Paul said if he could've played, he would have, but said the team was just being cautious.

"Nah, I'm not that worried about it," Paul said after the game about the injury being a prolonged thing.

Suns coach Monty Williams said after Tuesday's practice at Target Center the injury is "a lot better" than what the team thought, but expressed caution as well about it.

"He's going to have some more evaluations done, but if he's not right, we won't put him on the floor," Williams said.

With Paul out, Devin Booker will have increased ball-handling duties as he did in the second half Monday. The Suns do have Duane Washington Jr. back as he's been away with the team for personal reasons.

The two-way player who plays point guard recently became a first-time dad with the birth of his son of the same namesake.

The Suns (7-3) continue their road trip Friday at Orlando (2-9) and conclude it Monday at Miami (4-7).
