Suns update: Deandre Ayton (illness) downgraded to out Tuesday vs. Hornets

Deandre Ayton has downgraded from doubtful to out for Tuesday’s game against Charlotte after missing the last two games with a non-COVID illness.

The Suns big was at the practice facility for the morning shootaround, running on the treadmill during media viewing availability. He was listed doubtful Tuesday morning.

Devin Booker (left groin strain), Cameron Payne (right foot sprain) and Landry Shamet (sore right foot) are listed out for Phoenix (24-24), winners of its last three games.

Payne will be evaluated again in a week after recently being re-evaluated.

The Suns announced on Jan. 7 Payne would be re-evaluated in two weeks. So Payne would've been due for a re-evaluation on Saturday, Jan. 21.

The All-Star guard hasn't played since re-aggravating his groin on Christmas Day at Denver. He's missed 14 consecutive games with the left groin strain after sitting three games with groin soreness.

Suns wing Torrey Craig said Booker was looking to have 1-on-1 action Tuesday.

Suns coach Monty Williams indicated last week Shamet may be out an extended period of time with the foot injury, saying the team was gathering more information on it.
