'I feel good': Devin Booker 'continues progressing in on-court activity' with left groin strain
Phoenix Suns All-Star guard Devin Booker is set to return “soon” from a left groin strain suffered Christmas Day at Denver, sources inform The Republic.
"I feel good," Booker said. "Rounding third."
Booker will miss his 19th consecutive game with the injury Wednesday night against Atlanta (25-26) at Footprint Center. The Suns (27-25) begin a five-game road trip Friday at Boston (36-15) in the first of a back-to-back. They play Saturday at Detroit (13-39).
"I don't want to miss any games," Booker said. "I know I always say that. The team has it rolling right now. Playing really good basketball and I want to be a part of it."
The Celtics have the NBA’s best record while the Pistons have the worst record in the Eastern Conference.
The Suns (27-25) are 8-10 in the 18 previous games Booker has missed, winning six of their last seven. The Suns provided an update on Booker after Wednesday's shootaround, saying he "continues progressing in on-court activity and status will be updated game-by-game."
Booker was scheduled for a second re-evaluation Wednesday.
Phoenix is coming off a 114-106 home victory Monday over Toronto as Mikal Bridges scored a game-high 29 points, hitting back-to-back jumpers late in the comeback win.
"I didn't realize he went that crazy in the 1st quarter. And then, I expect that now, but that 4th quarter right there, shoot that's nice." “I didn't realize he went that crazy in the first quarter,” said Suns All-Star point guard Chris Paul about Bridges, who scored 16 points in the first quarter on 6-of-8 shooting (3-of-3 from 3).
Bridges scored 23 in the first half, the most he’s ever scored in a half in his career that’s in its fifth NBA season.
“And then, I expect that by now, but that 4th quarter right there, shoot that's nice. It’s nice man. Being in my third year here, a lot of times, that’s me or Book. That’s just going to make us that much more dangerous when No. 1 (Booker) get back.”
Averaging a career-high 27.1 points a game this season, Booker has missed a total of 23 games this season. He sat two games with left hamstring soreness and three with groin soreness in December before going down with the left groin strain in the first quarter of the Christmas game against the Nuggets.
