Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor sets opening date for massive waterfront hotel

The long-planned Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor, delayed first by the pandemic and later by Hurricane Ian, has announced it will open Dec. 15.

The new independent Allegiant-owned concept hotel on the banks of the Peace River in Charlotte County features 785 luxury rooms at the $585 million waterfront property.

Set on a 22-acre waterfront complex, Sunseeker has over 60,000 square feet of meeting space and features seven restaurants, 20 dining and bar options and a 25,000-square-foot food hall.

“This level of private investment into a single hotel along the Southwest coast of Florida is unprecedented to the area and so is the experience we’ve built here,” said Micah Richins, President & COO of Sunseeker Resorts.

Marketed as the center attraction for Charlotte County, Sunseeker will serve as a dining and entertainment hub for the Punta Gorda and Charlotte areas.

“Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor will provide the region with a stellar array of hospitality and culinary experiences that will attract guests from around the world. We are incredibly proud to debut what we believe will become the Gulf Coast’s premier destination along with the incredible amenities and unbelievable talent at the resort,” Richins said.

Other amenities include a full-service spa and salon, a 7,100-square-foot state-of-the-art fitness center with four group exercise studios with specialty instructor lead classes, three retail and market shops, and a newly announced 18-hole golf experience, Aileron, which will be located throughout the property.

After breaking ground in March 2019, the resort project was put on hold during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, with its opening stalled for a second time last year following Hurricane Ian damaging parts of the building and toppling two construction cranes on the project site.

The Las Vegas-based Allegiant airline has vastly expanded service to from Tampa to Fort Myers over the past decade, including flights to Sarasota and Punta Gorda, which is six miles from the resort. Allegiant started service at Punta Gorda Airport in 2009 and reported that last year, more than 1.8 million passengers traveled to and from the area via the airline.

Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor is at 4949 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte. For more information, call 833-909-5700.
