🌱 Sunset Shooter Attempted Car Jacking + Free OCTA Rides for NYE

Good morning, Huntington Beach! Let's get you started this Wednesday with everything you need to know going on today in Huntington Beach.

More details about the Sunset shooter are emerging. Also, you can ride FREE with OCTA and leave your car behind this New Year’s Eve. Finally, are you hip to the Red Table Restaurant?

First, today's weather:

Cool with periods of rain. High: 59 Low: 52.

Here are the top five stories today in Huntington Beach:

  1. On Monday, we reported on a Sunset Beach shooting. There are now more details available. The suspected shooter is from Norwalk and targeted a bike rider near South Pacific and 7th Street. According to witness reports, the shooting was random. We learned Tuesday that, apparently, the suspect “attempted to carjack someone in the area of Pacific Avenue and 7th Street.” (HBPD, Biking in LA)

  2. The Orange County Transportation Authority will give FREE rides for those celebrating the New Year. OCTA buses will offer the service from 6 PM on Friday to 2:30 AM on Saturday. Even though this service was temporarily suspended last year, it is scheduled this year “as more people return to regular activities.” (FB)

  3. Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris honored the Red Table Restaurant on Monday as part of the “Local Restaurant Spotlight Program.” Located in the Huntington Harbour Mall, the gastropub encourages guests to “relax, eat, drink.” “It was such a joy to visit Red Table Restaurant and recognize this wonderful restaurant,” said Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris. (HBN)

  4. Brookhurst Street bridge closures began Monday late at night and through the early morning hours. This process will likely go on for three weeks on the weeknights. Next, the northbound I-405 off-ramp to Brookhurst Street will close around January 3. (I-405 Improvements)

  5. Are you looking for at-home COVID-19 testing kits? While you may have a difficult time finding them on store shelves, residents can order them directly through the OC Health Care Agency. As noted in Monday’s reports, orders for the kits will be “fulfilled within 24 to 48 hours.” (Patch)
