These Sunset Views at the New Greenwich West Building are Luxuriously Dreamy

Parisian interior designer Sebastien Segers-known for his work with product designer Marc Newson and fashion houses such as Armani and Dior-takes on his first residential building in New York City with Greenwich West at 110 Charlton Street. “I wanted to experiment on a large scale with the design guidelines I have developed on more exclusive high-end projects, and New York is the place I dreamed about,” he says. “When doing a residential tower, you have to anticipate the community who will live there, the story they can share, and find the balance between the strong identity [of the building] and the ability of the space to be appropriated by its residents. The driver is: Do I want it for myself?”

Located in the Hudson Square neighborhood, Greenwich West stands 30 stories tall and features 170 loft-style residences, from studios to three-bedrooms. Segers drew inspiration from the neighborhood’s maritime history, and its “French midcentury-modern architecture, Scandinavian design, and Japanese aesthetics,” he says. The residences are lavishly appointed with wide-plank European white oak floors and Carrara marble countertops and windowsills. Segers says seeing the evolution of the sun daily is very important to him, so he’d choose a unit facing downtown to the southwest: “You enjoy the vibration of the light over the city at sunrise and sunset, and you feel the call of the sea,” he says.
