Sunshine, Sixers, Point-to-Point and Dover Days: Guide to your weekend

Hey, there Small Wonder.

Welcome to the weekend.

We've got a guide to your best possible weekend, whether you're headed out to run errands, buy plants for your garden or spring veggies at the farmers market, getting hyped for the Sixers or knocking out chores, may the force be …

Oh, wait. We did that already, didn’t we? It’s no longer May the Fourth but it IS May the Sixth, so carry on, young Jedi. And if you are a Star Wars fan, we do have an event for you today.

Read on, you will ...

May the 6th be With You

Stars Wars fans know well the the phrase "May the Fourth" be with you. But there's another saying this spring that's just as important, but not nearly as popular, writes Andre Lamar.

That phrase is "Revenge of the Sixth."

Lovers of the dark side will get a kick out of this special Saturday (May "Sixth") event that inspired a fun Star Wars celebration at Delaware Museum of Nature & Science.

Festivities include music, space-themed activities, crafts, appearances from the 501st Legion — First State Garrison, Ghost Base Rebel Legion, Mandalorian Mercs and more coolness. There also will be snacks and beverages.

Revenge of the Sixth will invade Delaware Museum of Nature & Science (4840 Kennett Pike, Wilmington) from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $20 for non-members; $7 members. Visit delmns.org or (302) 658-9111.

Do I need my umbrella this weekend?

You can leave that unwieldly contraption at home ... finally.

We are looking at 73 degrees and sunny today, and partly sunny and 76 degrees tomorrow. So you can safely ditch the rain boots and test run some of your cute spring fashions.

And the outlook is good for all of the fun out there to enjoy ....

Stock up on Delaware fresh

It's farmers market seasons, one of our favorite seasons.

Asparagus, baby lettuce, ramps and fiddleheads, what's not to like?

A lot of Delaware markets open this weekend, others coming on line soon. Check out our guide here.

The 45th annual Point-to-Point trots back to Winterthur with lots of festivities in its stable this weekend, including a tailgate competition judged by a local Food Network celebrity.

All parking and admission must be purchased by today, Saturday, a day before the big event.

Celebrity chef Dru Tevis of SoDel Concepts will judge the tailgate competition. Tevis recently won season nine of Food Network’s Holiday Baking Championship in 2022.

What started out as a small group of horse riders and picnickers on May 6, 1979, has evolved into a popular cultural event that’s famous for its high-stakes racing (with purses totaling $60,000), posh fashion and lots of fun festivities.

Point-to-Point is Winterthur's largest single-day fundraising event. Proceeds from this year's event support environmental and landscape stewardship initiatives.

Saddle up for the return of Point-to-Point at Winterthur (5105 Kennett Pike, Winterthur) from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For tickets and more info, visit winterthur.org or (302) 888-4600.

Free first Sundays

Are you a first timer at Rockwood Museum, or is that you can't get enough of it? Either way, there's a self-guided tour of the place with your name it. And it's at no cost to you, since this event is intended to give back to the community.

That means you can be a happy recipient of this tour at Rockwood Museum (4651 Washington St. Extension, Wilmington) from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Free event. Visit newcastlede.gov/calendar or (302) 395-5555.
