There's something happening Sunday, Feb. 11. Hold on, it'll come to me.

Oh yeah, there's a football game playing on TV. And not just any football game but THE football game: Super Bowl LVIII.

For those who are more into the food than the big game, here are the basics, along with entertaining ideas and lots of deals and freebies to intercept.

When is Super Bowl 58?

Super Bowl 2024 will be played Sunday, Feb. 11, at 6:30 p.m. ET.

And in case you're coming in at the very beginning, it's a football game. American-style football, not fútbol, which we call soccer.

Who is playing in the 2024 Super Bowl?

Playing in this year's Super Bowl are the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.

Want to impress others?

This will be the fourth time the Chiefs have played in a Super Bowl. The Chiefs are led by their quarterback, two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes. His favorite target is tight end Travis Kelce.

Yes, Kelce is the person you've been hearing about who is connected to superstar Taylor Swift, who has her own run to make to get to the game on time since she'll be performing in Japan right before the Super Bowl.

San Francisco 49ers staged a 34-31 comeback win over the Detroit Lions to get into this year's Super Bowl.  This is their eighth appearance in the big game and they'll face the defending champions. San Francisco's quarterback Brock Purdy has been leading the 49ers throughout the season.

Where will Super Bowl 58 be played?

The game will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the first time the venue has ever hosted a Super Bowl.

How many people will watch Super Bowl 58?

The National Retail Federation estimates a record 200.5 million adults in the U.S. plan to watch the game.

Is it Super Bowl LVIII or Super Bowl 58?

Both are the same thing. LVIII is Roman numerals for 58. And you thought you'd never see them again after school.

How much are people spending on Super Bowl food and merch in 2024?

The National Retail Federation predicts Americans will spend a record $17.3 billion on food, drinks, apparel, party decorations and more for Super Bowl 58. That comes to $86.04 per person.

In 2024, 112.2 million people plan to throw or attend a party, and another 16.2 million plan to watch the game at a bar or restaurant.

That's about $1 billion — yes, that's billion — more than last year’s big game.

Where does most of the money go? A total of 80% is for food and beverages, with team apparel a far second at 13%. TVs, decorations and furniture account for other measurable spending for the game.

What are the favorite Super Bowl foods?

In Florida, pizza is the most searched Super Bowl food, according to JeffBet. Chili comes in as No. 2. That one is probably not a finger food. Wondering what else made the list? No. 3 was deviled eggs.

Nationally, pizza also came in as the top Super Bowl food. Here are the Top 10 in the U.S., according to JeffBet:

  1. Pizza

  2. Chili

  3. Deviled eggs

  4. Buffalo chicken dip

  5. Guacamole

  6. Jambalaya

  7. Chicken wings

  10. Quesadillas

According to Forbes, though, the most popular foods to munch through the Super Bowl are chips and dip (73% planning on serving) and pizza (52% planning to serve).

Delish puts the No. 1 Super Bowl food in Florida as smoked fish dip. If you're planning on serving some chicken wings, lemon pepper is the top flavor in Florida.

It's hard to go wrong with any of the foods on any of the lists, especially if you manage to find a freebie or good deal. Speaking of which ...
