Carving out time for a good deed: A Super Bowl champ and former Stroudsburg Mountaineer prepared Thanksgiving meals while greeting football fans on the West Coast.

Sebastian Joseph-Day, defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers, visited the Midnight Mission in downtown Los Angeles November 22 to cook, carve and serve turkey dinners to the needy.

At the event, part of his charitable initiative Bashing Hunger, Joseph-Day and his wife, Rachel, also donated $5,000 to the homeless shelter.

Bashing Hunger focuses on combating food insecurity by increasing food rescue, raising money and awareness, as well as providing nutritional education.

“The Midnight Mission is a special place and I am so happy my wife and I got to learn more about what they do for the skid row community. They believe in helping those in need through the mind, body and soul. Along with providing meals The Midnight Mission curates programs like art, music, and athletics to help guide men, women and children. We are so thankful to have been able to learn more about their facilities and what they do on a daily basis as well as help prepare and serve meals," he said in a release.

Joseph-Day, dubbed affectionally as "Bash," by his teammates and loved ones, is known for his charitable efforts with organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Read Across America, and as an official ambassador on behalf of Special Olympics Haiti. (His parents, Joseph Vivens and Mirlende, hail from the Caribbean island.)

In addition, he has collaborated with 570 Sports Camps, which brought him back to the Pocono football fields of his younger days.

The star athlete began his football career as a Mountie, then at Rutgers, where he was a stand-out defensively.

He got drafted to the NFL in 2018 to the Los Angeles Rams where he made two Super Bowl appearances —  in 2010 and 2022.
