NFL veteran and Super Bowl champion Nigel Bradham – a former Wakulla High and Florida State star linebacker – was arrested Saturday on two marijuana charges and a weapons charge by the Florida Highway Patrol.
At 10:55 a.m. Saturday morning, a trooper driving on US Highway 90 saw Bradham in a 2021 Chevy Corvette, according to FHP Master Cpl. Patricia Jefferson-Shaw. He ran the tag and it came back "not assigned," meaning it was likely issued for another vehicle.
After initiating a traffic stop, the trooper said "he smelled the strong odor of marijuana."
During a search of the sports car, two handguns, 3.4 pounds of marijuana and 10 small bags, which the trooper believed to be for distribution, were found, according to Jefferson-Shaw.
One gun came back stolen out of Missouri, she added.
He faces the following charges: three counts of possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, two counts of gun possession during a felony and one count of marijuana possession with intent to sell.
Deputies brought Bradham, 32, to the Leon County Detention Facility before he was released on a $1,000 bail Sunday morning.
According to court documents, he hired his own attorney. But it is unclear who his attorney is.
Bradham played nine years in the NFL and is a free agent this season.
He was activated for one game with Denver Broncos in 2020, and was a member of the 2018 Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Bradham played four seasons in Philadelphia, starting in 58 games and finishing with 384 tackles. He was briefly signed by the Saints in late 2020 but was quickly released.
Bradham was a USA TODAY and Parade All-American at Wakulla High. He signed with FSU and was a four-year starter (2008-11) for the Seminoles before being drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.
He has held a free youth football camp in Crawfordville and served as the Grand Marshall in the Wakulla County Christian Coalition Black History Festival and Parade in 2018 following the Eagles’ Super Bowl win.
In 2016, he was arrested on a misdemeanor concealed weapons charge in Miami after a loaded handgun was reportedly found in Bradham’s backpack as he made his way through Miami International Airport.
Months before, he was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault by Miami police. The case was closed after he entered a deferred prosecution program. At the time, he was playing for the Eagles.
