Super Bowl LVIII: How the players from Sacramento-area players fared in the game

(FOX40.COM) — Super Bowl LVIII ended in a thrilling victory for the Kansas City Chiefs, winning the game 25-22 in overtime over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Chiefs solidified its dynasty with a third Super Bowl win in five years and becoming the NFL’s first repeat champion since 2004.

As for the 49ers, the franchise is still searching for their first Lombardi Trophy since the 1994 season.

On the field, there was representation from the Sacramento area on the 49ers and these are the players who were involved in the game.

Arik Armstead

Born in Sacramento, 49ers defensive tackle Arik Armstead was a presence for San Francisco’s defense.

Armstead sacked Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the second quarter that led to Kansas City settling for a field goal and making the halftime score 10-3.

In his second Super Bowl appearance, the nine-year veteran finished with six total tackles, three solo tackles and a tackle for loss.

Before being drafted 17th overall by the 49ers in 2015, Armstead was a standout athlete at Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove and went on to play college football for the Oregon Ducks.

Armstead played in each of the 49ers postseason games after a foot injury kept him out for the final five games of the regular season. He recorded five tackles in two games and recovered a fumble during the NFC Championship.

Brandon Aiyuk

In his first Super Bowl appearance, 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk finished with the team’s second most receiving yards.

The four-year veteran, who was born in Rocklin, recorded 49 yards on three catches.

Although he was born in Rocklin, Aiyuk attended McQueen High School in Reno. Aiyuk later returned to Rocklin to play football at Sierra College, where he was named All-NorCal Conference as a freshman and a Junior College All-American as a sophomore.

Aiyuk later played for the Arizona State University Sun Devils before getting selected by the 49ers with the 25th pick in the first round of 2020 NFL Draft.

The former Sierra College Wolverine earned Second Team All-Pro honors after finishing with 75 receptions, 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.

In the playoffs, Aiyuk finishes with nine catches for 149 yards and a touchdown including a highlight 51-yard reception in the NFC Championship.
