LAS VEGAS (WJW) — The National Football League’s 2023-2024 season came to an end Sunday, with the Super Bowl taking place in Las Vegas.

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, despite trailing for much of the game.

Let’s take a look at what went down during the game:

The game finally started around 6:40 p.m. Quickly, San Francisco showed it’s dominance on the field, but they weren’t able to turn it into points.

After what felt like one of the quickest first quarters in Super Bowl history, neither team was able to score.

But, starting in quickly in the second quarter, the 49ers were finally able to get some points on the board, with a 55-yard field goal. The score moved to 3-0.

Both teams showed their frustration at their inability to score, garnering multiple silly fouls. The 49ers were ultimately the first team to score a touchdown, in the fourth minute of the second quarter. The score then moved to 10-0.

With less than a minute to go, Kansas City finally got on the board with a good field goal. The score then moved to 10-3 and that’s how we ended going into the half.

Following a riotous halftime show from Usher, the two teams came on back out on the field, with the Chiefs looking frustrated. Thankfully, they were able to score in the third quarter, at about midway through, although just a field goal. The score moved to 10-6.

Then, the flood gates opened at the Chiefs were able to get in a groove. The team finally took the lead for the first time with a touchdown and good field goal. The score moved to 13-10.

The 49ers saw the score and didn’t take it sitting down. They scored a touchdown but were blocked in the extra point. so the score moved to 16-13 in the 4th quarter.

The Chiefs were able to pull out a field goal and the score became tied.

Yet another field goal meant the 49ers took the lead, but the gave Patrick Mahomes the ball back with two minutes to go. Tied at 19, we went into overtime. It was the second time a Super Bowl game had ever gone into overtime.

The overtime, of course, like the rest of the game, was not easy. Nothing was easy. San Francisco managed to nab three points, but without a touchdown, they gave it to Mahomes.

And that was the misstep, because the Kansas City Chiefs went down and scored a touchdown. The final score was 25-22.
