'Super fired up for Shane': What players, coaches say about Colts coach Shane Steichen

Shane Steichen was introduced as Indianapolis Colts head coach Tuesday.

The 37-year-old was the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator, helping the team reach the Super Bowl. The Eagles lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35 as Jalen Hurts accounted for four touchdowns (one passing, three rushing).

Steichen is a football lifer, having played quarterback in college and coached with the Chargers, Browns and Eagles. Here's what people around the NFL have to say about Steichen.

Philip Rivers

Rivers, who concluded his career with the Colts in 2020, worked with Steichen with the Chargers for several years.

"Super fired up for Shane. I loved the time we had together with the Chargers. I've stayed in touch with him over the last few years. It was just a matter of time before he got the opportunity to be a head coach. His offensive mind and feel for calling a game is elite. He has great passion for the game and love for the players. The Colts got a heck of a coach and person."

Norv Turner

Steichen worked with Norv Turner on the staffs of the Chargers and Browns, and credits him as a coaching influence.

"Shane is extremely deserving of this opportunity. He's done a great job going all the way back to the Chargers with Justin Herbert and one style of offense. Then in Philadelphia, you look at the progress Jalen Hurts has made in a different style of offense. So he's been successful in two different systems. In regard to Indianapolis with its history and tradition of offensive football, I think pairing Shane with the Colts is perfect. I think the players and the fans will love him and it will be exciting to watch."

Nick Sirianni

The Eagles coach spoke after the regular season about the possibility of losing Streichen and/or defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to other teams.

"You're hoping that you have success. You're hoping you lose guys for the benefit of them and their career and their family. You hate to lose guys because the reason they're here in the first place is because I felt like they were really good coaches."

Pat McAfee

The former Indianapolis Colts punter opened his show Tuesday with his seal of approval for the Colts' hire.

"I love his resume. I love his success. And I love what we're going to do here in Indianapolis. ... It seems like we got a guy who's a dog, and I love that."
