A super hero in Biloxi? These 8 science fiction & horror films were made or set in MS

Commemorate this glorious event with the time-honored tradition of bingeing movies. Here’s a list of horror and science fiction movies set or filmed in Mississippi.

  1. The Blob (1958): This science fiction horror film was set in Pennsylvania, but filmed in Chester, Mississippi.

  2. The Return of Swamp Thing (1989): This science fiction superhero film was filmed in several locations in Mississippi, including Jackson, Canton and Hinds County.

  3. Deadpool 2 (2018): The super hero film starring Ryan Reynolds as a Mississippi Coast connection. In Biloxi, Deadpool disguises himself as a stripper to catch a few criminals.

  4. Don’t Kill It (2016): A demon hunter (Dolph Lundgren) travels to Mississippi to track down and destroy an ancient homicidal demon. The movie was filmed in Lexington, Mississippi.

  5. The Legend of Gator Face (1996): Two friends live in a small Mississippi town with a legend involving a monster called Gator Face living in a nearby swamp. After dressing like the swamp thing, they discover it is real.

  6. The Little Mermaid (2018): In this live action film, a man takes his niece to Mississippi where a mermaid has been captured. The mermaid’s captor sells the water she swims in, claiming it can cure any ailment.

  7. The Tempest (1998): The film, starring Peter Fonda, Katherine Heigl and John Glover, is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic. In this version set in Mississippi during the Civil War, a man is kicked off his farm and uses magic he learned from one of his slaves to protect his daughter and help the Union.
