after scientists take inspiration

from the movie franchise

Researchers named dozens of fly species

after Deadpool, Thor, Loki and Black Widow

based on their appearance

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ENTOMOLOGY STUDENT WHO NAMED THE NEW SPECIES AT THE CSIRO, ISABELLA ROBINSON, SAYING:

"These are the first species I got to name. So I wanted to do something a little bit exciting with the naming."

"I named one of the flies after Black Widow. The shiny black abdomen reminds me a little bit of her outfit in the Avengers movie."

"I was inspired to name a fly after Deadpool because the species has a marking on its back that looks just like Deadpool's mask."

One fly was even named after

Marvel creator Stan Lee

for its characteristic markings

which resembled his sunglasses and moustache

All five species are robber flies
