Super Shoes closing at Fairlane Village mall near Pottsville

Jun. 19—POTTSVILLE — Customers of Super Shoes in Fairlane Village mall are disappointed that the store is closing.

"I don't like it, Eileen Lymeister, 61, of Pottsville, said Monday at the store, which opened in 2008 and is scheduled to close July 15.

Everything is 50% off, according to signs. In addition to footwear, the store sells clothing, including uniforms, accessories and other items.

Lymeister ended up buying two pairs of shoes and two T-shirts for about $50.

Ryan Doyle, assistant manager, said the decision to close the store, which is near Boscov's, was made at the corporate level.

Employees were told of the closure in person on May 19.

A call to Renee Rutherford, regional manager for the Hagerstown, Maryland-based company, was not returned.

Shopper Barb Ralston, 58, of Minersville, said she was sad about the closing. She bought sneakers and YakTrax traction aids for $55.

Marilyn Hohnholt, 69, of Pottsville, bought Clarks sandals on her stop at the store.

"It's hard for me to find sandals that I like," she said.

Rocco Arruzzo, regional manager for Lexington Realty, the management company for mall owner Pottsville Commons LLC, also said the decision to close Super Shoes was made at the company's corporate level.

"It (the decision) had nothing to do with rent or the mall," according to Arruzzo.

He said efforts are underway to bring more tenants to the mall and that he met with a prospective tenant Monday.

"It looks very promising," he said of a restaurant moving in.

Mall stores include Boscov's, Kohl's, T.J. Maxx, T-Mobile, Dunham's Sports, Athletics in Motion, Michaels, Dollar Tree, Tangled Salon and Nail Tech.

Brother's Buffet and Harbor Freight Tools are also on the mall property.
