Superintendent of the Chelsea Soliders’ Home fired
Eric Johnson, the superintendent of the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home, has been fired.
Johnson’s leadership has been in question since last year after an inspector general found the veterans’ living conditions at the home were unacceptable.
In a letter to the health and human services secretary, the inspector detailed disturbing reports from 2022 including veterans found soaked in urine and dead rodents and bugs.
Johnson is also accused of misusing the overtime policy.
The governor’s spokeperson confirmed to boston 25 news that johnson was no longer working there, saying in part, “Governor Healey and her administration remain committed to protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of our veterans.”
Robert Engell, the Assistant Secretary of Veterans’ Homes and Housing, is the acting superintendent.
